In wireless video surveillance systems, signal latency is an important issue. Modern people's requirements for wireless monitoring are high definition, real-time operation and smoothness, but it is impossible to create a complete monitoring system without delay, because it consists of many parts, and each part affects transmission efficiency of entire system.
What affects wireless network monitoring latency and how can I minimize it?
01 Decoder Performance
The so-called decoder usually refers to decoder itself or client used for decoding. The quality of decoder easily affects video decoding speed. If quality is not good, it is very easy to get video lag or screen freeze. However, sometimes during decoding or encoding process, in order to keep video smooth, system automatically adds buffering, which is also subject to slight delays.
Countermeasures. When choosing a codec, be guided not by price, but by its suitability. It is best to choose a high-quality and suitable codec. video transmission and reduces latency.
Switch 02
When network traffic increases, processing time of switches and routers will increase accordingly, and factors such as latency, packet loss rate, backplane bandwidth, switching capacity, and packet rate of poor quality switches will be directly displayed in transmission process over networks.
Countermeasures: In preliminary design of project, maximum value of transferred data must be calculated. Choose a suitable and high-quality switch to avoid possibility of packet loss and data transmission delay. It is recommended to choose a dedicated switch for monitoring.
03 Wireless video transmission equipment
Because processing power of transmitting device's processor or response speed of system is insufficient, there will be a delay in transmission process. Wireless video transmission equipment is also similar to a computer, and its delay is also related to configuration of equipment itself and hardware chip.
Countermeasures. When choosing a wireless video device, consider its configuration, such as memory size, flash memory, and solutions. The response speed and signal processing capability of a good wireless bridge will be much faster, so relatively speaking, latency will be much less.
04 Relay Jump
In process of transmission, each transition means an increase in processing time of transit device. The more jumps, more time loss caused.
Countermeasures: When designing a route, it is possible to minimize number of transfers under condition of elevation.

Transmission Line Performance
The so-called "wireless" is actually that device replaces function of intermediate cable, but device still needs a network cable or video cable to connect front camera and rear monitoring center equipment, and intermediate cable is also important part. A good cable can improve transmission efficiency, and there are certain requirements for cable length as well.
Countermeasures. Choose a high quality connecting cable.
For wireless monitoring system, customers' biggest fear is long delays in live video transmission, video freezes and other phenomena, and what we need to do is to minimize delay. The above way to reduce delay, pay attention to details so that the wireless monitoring system can play its biggest role.
