What is difference between DVR and NVR video recorder

We often use VCRs in CCTV installation projects, and VCRs we use include DVRs and NVRs, so when installing CCTV, do you think about that? Why do we need to choose monitoring installation, whether to use DVR to monitor DVR or install DVR to monitor NVR. Do you know difference between them?

NVR is a DVR connected to an IP camera. The IP camera is divided into normal IPC CIF/D1 and high definition digital IPC. compressed video. When video arrives at NVR, there is no need for A/D conversion or compression, it is simply stored and decompressed for display and playback only.

One, DVR

Digital video recorder is also called digital video recorder or hard disk digital video recorder. We used to call it a hard disk video recorder. Compared to traditional analog VCRs, it uses a hard disk to record video, which is why it is often referred to as a hard disk video recorder, also known as a digital video recorder. This is a computer system for storing and processing images with functions of long-term video recording, audio recording, remote monitoring and image/voice control.

The DVR integrates five major functions, including video recording, screen splitter, pan/tilt lens control, alarm control, and network communication. One device can replace functions of many devices in an analog monitoring system, and gradually has a price advantage.

The DVR uses digital recording technology, which is far superior to analog monitoring equipment in terms of image processing, image storage, search, backup, network transmission and remote control. DVR represents development direction of TV monitoring system and is best choice for TV monitoring system in market. Commonly divided into: hard disk video recorder, PC hard disk video recorder, built-in hard disk video recorder, etc.

DVR cannot support IP camera. According to general definition, products called DVR usually do not support network IP cameras. Digital DVR generally refers to converting video data captured by analog cameras into digital recordings, excluding transmission over an IP network. By definition, a DVR intelligently supports analog signal input. Therefore, if DVR supports IP cameras, you need to decode decoder used by IP cameras into analog signals described in previous section and then input them to the DVR.

2. NVR

The NVR is also a HDD NVR. The main function of NVR is to receive digital video stream transmitted by IPC (network camera) equipment over network, store and manage it in order to realize advantages of distributed architecture provided by network. Simply put, through Nvr, you can view, view, play, manage and store multiple webcams at same time. Get rid of shackles of computer hardware and no longer have to deal with cumbersome software installations. If all cameras are networked, only way is to have a centralized control core.

The main function of NVR is to receive, store and manage digital video streams transmitted by IPC (Internet Camera), DVS (Video Encoder) and other devices over network. This is a video recorder used with a network camera or video encoder to record digital video transmitted over a network. Its main value lies in video middleware that is widely compatible with encoding formats of various digital devices from different manufacturers, thereby realizing benefits of a distributed architecture and access to components provided by network.

The NVR encoder can support analog cameras. The function of encoder is to convert analog signal of an analog camera into an IP video stream for transmission over a computer network. Almost all NVRs support encoding.

Third, difference between them

By systematizing above information, it is not difficult to see conceptual difference between two. The latter relies more on webcams and focuses more on web applications. In layman's terms, NVR relies on network to operate. But DVRs don't work. The hard disk can be placed in DVR, and DVR is more like a disk array, providing network storage for IPC or DVS. Compared with traditional DVR, NVR has advantages of flexible deployment, easy installation and low cost.
