As you know, both ends of our network cable jumpers are made from same crystal head. But on a fiber optic jumper or ODF, we use different fiber optic connectors rather than a single interface. The most common fiber optic connector interfaces are FC, SC, ST, and LC. Today I will share with you how to choose right fiber optic connector interface.
SC and ST fiber interface
As shown in figure above, SC Type Optical Jumper: The connector connected to optical GBIC module. Its body has a rectangular shape, and mounting method is plug-in and bolted. without rotation. The optical interface on side of transmission equipment usually uses SC connectors. (It is most commonly used on routers and switches, and China Telecom's optical cats mainly use SC interface for cold connection.)
ST Type Fiber Jumper: Often used in fiber distribution frames. The case has a round shape, and method of fastening is a lanyard. Typically used in fiber optic distribution frames.
ST, SC interconnects are commonly used in general purpose networks. After ST connector is inserted, it rotates half a turn and is fixed by bayonet. /p> 
FC and LC interface
LC Type Fiber Patch Cord: The connector is similar in shape to SC connector, but smaller than SC connector. SFP module connector with easy-to-use modular jack (RJ) latch mechanism. Routers are used more.
FC Type Fiber Optic Jumper: external reinforcement method is metal sleeve, and attachment method is lanyard. Generally, it is mainly used on ODF side and distribution frame.
FC connectors are mainly used in telecommunications networks. A nut is screwed onto adapter. The advantage is reliability and dust resistance. The disadvantage is that installation time is slightly longer.
In many cases, we need to decide which interface to use for a fiber optic jumper depending on equipment we purchase, but on ODF side, we can usually decide which interface to use.

Currently, in Xiaobian project, if it is ODF side, FC interface is usually used. Elsewhere, SC interface is used to extent possible, if equipment permits.
