“The profit from camera is only a dozen yuan,” an old guard who has worked in security industry for many years told us, “Many people do not want to do this and change jobs.”
The owner of security company described it like this: “I have accompanied security company since making huge profits. Since industry boomed in 2008, each security product cost thousands of yuan before and only a dozen yuan in later period. A lot of people don't want to do that."
The veteran security veteran, who asked not to be named, said that in his circle of acquaintances, at least 60% of security manufacturers have left market or were seeking to transform.
Currently, pressure of market competition is mounting, information is highly asymmetric, and problems related to inability to receive orders, low order prices, and complex calculations annoy most security personnel. In front of every security professional, disproportionate salaries and income also confuse more and more security professionals: what should future security professionals do?
Some people chose to run away, while others chose to stay. Meet scorching sun at construction site, do not be afraid of wind and rain, climb high poles and dig trenches; in office, read blueprints, punctuate, select products, and calculate offers; in lab, define requirements, draw diagrams, type codes, and test bugs... In small ways, we contribute to safety of others, and in large ways, to safety of society. The painstaking effort and sweat on path to security must be more than flowers and applause that only security personnel can understand. Security is a wonderful industry and people who work in security are wonderful people too, but how should security guards behave in today's situation?
In security industry, just like other industries, there are many jobs such as software development, marketing, sales staff, product technical support, program design system debugging, after-sales service, etc. Different jobs have different characteristics and quality. The requirements for each person are also different. No one is same. If you want to develop in security industry, you must find right direction, adjust your mentality and improve! Here are some tips for security personnel:
1. When developing a product, you must have a long-term vision!
The rate of product updates in security industry is fast, and any new industry-related technology can open up new opportunities for industry. Therefore, product development team must pay close attention to development trends of other related industries, and integrate their own market knowledge. Understand and understand needs to develop viable, competitive and future-proof products. As we all know, there are companies in China that launched right products at right time and created a company or even an industry, but behind them there may be several companies whose products are stillborn or not competitive in market. market is dying. Therefore, product developers need to expand their horizons, catch present and look to future.
2. To sell, you need to know technology!
One day I met a seller and a buyer and I said bluntly: "I'm in sales and I'm not tech savvy." In fact, process of selling security products is mainly application layer technology, so most of them are not cutting edge technologies. Sales personnel must be able to communicate with customers to understand basic needs of customers and combine their understanding of their company's products to give a basic system configuration and equipment list. Regarding details such as integration, interfaces, materials, etc., you can find solution engineers and systems engineers for support.
The so-called skills are not overwhelming. Several engineers who used to work in technical support have moved into product sales, and they have succeeded like fish in water. They said that their foundation is very useful.
3. To perform installation and debugging, you must accumulate experience and become a senior!
The job of installing and debugging is simple and straightforward, but complex and confusing. It's easy to tell if there are no crashes, and if you know product manual then follow manual step by step, most of them can be debugged successfully, but as soon as you encounter problems that are not covered in manual, it's time to test entry level engineers and senior engineers. Usually, when a problem occurs, ability to troubleshoot can be seen as an advantage for a senior engineer. This kind of debugging and troubleshooting is not something beginners can do quickly. The first is familiarity with product, and second is experience of troubleshooting, as well as a wealth of knowledge! In fact, so-called seniority is often associated with practical experience, and practical experience must be continuously accumulated in process of work, which is directly proportional to length of service.
4. Engage in technology, but do not think that technology is capital!
The security industry is developing very fast, with new products and technologies changing every year. You must constantly supplement and learn to keep up with pace of industry, because your stock of knowledge and skills may soon run out. As far as applied security industry technologies are concerned, any new graduate can catch up to 80% of your technical level in 2 years, but you may not be able to catch up with them in understanding and ability to learn new technologies. . Therefore, it is difficult for proprietary technology to become capital with core competitiveness in future. Of course, technology mentioned here is product application technology and applied engineering technology that most security professionals are involved in (the software and hardware product development technology is another matter).
5. Expand communication and develop good contacts!
The characteristic of engineers and technicians is that they often deal with machines and equipment, and they have a clear love and hate, black and white. Most engineers only hang out with engineers, thinking they have a common language and don't fool around. It's actually more important to interact with other types of people. If you're hoping to be a boss or manager one day, then you'll be running into these people all day long. Understanding their behavior, mindset, hobbies, learning how they cope with problems, as well as understanding phenomena and problems in every corner of society is a huge capital for future development. In fact, circle of safety and even weak electricity is small, so you should slowly develop your connections and reputation in the circle. When you want to set another mountain or even change jobs one day, you will get endless benefits!
