We always warn our children: outside world is dangerous, don't talk to strangers, but they don't know that there are hidden dangers at home.
On July 1, a 3-year-old boy from Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, who was delivering construction materials with his parents, accidentally fell from 24th floor and died from his serious injuries.
August 8, a five-year-old boy accidentally fell off a balcony when adults in Haikou City went outside to take out trash.
August 13, a 16-month-old boy from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province fell from seventh floor and unfortunately died.
When words "children" and "falling off a building" appear, I believe that everyone's heart will be deeply hurt, an accident and a life of self-reproach and pain.
It's not safe at home
Data show that family is main place where childhood accidents occur, accounting for 52%. Of particular note is fact that among children under age of 14, 13.2% died from falls.
Children in this age group are active and inquisitive. Parents ignore safety briefing or find it safe to lock their children at home and home security measures are not in place, resulting in accidents.
Behind painful incident is a warning that increased precautions for family must be stepped up to prevent children from falling off buildings.
1. Strengthen care, keep child out of sight
Almost half of children's falls are due to fact that children are left at home without supervision. So don't leave your child alone at home, don't take risks, as many accidents happen. Locking small children at home may seem safe, but it is actually very dangerous. Even if child does not climb onto balcony, water, electricity and gas in house are dangerous.
Even at home, keep children out of sight and away from dangerous places such as balconies, windows, and hallways.
2. Install a safety fence
The World Health Organization once published a data set showing that window protection measures could reduce child deaths from falling from windows by 50% to 90%. Therefore, installation of protective railings on bay windows, windows, balconies, etc. at home should be adults, and quality should be good enough to withstand loads.
In addition, many child fall accidents are caused by child's body going through railing and child's head getting stuck in gap. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is best to install a mesh fence or a fence with a relatively small gap. .
3. Install window magnets and smart window openers
A security fence is not a panacea, for safety, you can install window magnets and smart window openers. When parent is not around to take care of it, it enters prevention mode. At this time, window cannot be opened. If it is forced open, an alarm will be issued and parent will be notified.
4. Install cameras for real-time surveillance
Install camera at home and directly display monitoring screen on your mobile phone or tablet. Even if parents are not in living room, they can observe child's behavior in real time through a mobile phone or tablet. found, stop it in time.
5. Don't pile things up on balcony
In absence of ventilation, it is recommended to close windows. Regardless of floor level, do not place low cabinets, stools and other objects that can be climbed near balcony and windows to avoid accidents.
6. Strengthen safety education and increase hazard awareness
Children with communication skills should be warned and reminded from time to time not to fight on balconies or climb windows to increase their safety awareness.
Parents should lead by example, do not lie on window or stay on balcony on weekdays so that children do not imitate. After seeing a jump from a height in a movie, parents should tell their children in time that this is wrong behavior and it will hurt them.
Safety measures can go a long way to guarantee safety of children. However, safety education for children is a project of social system. It is not enough to establish appropriate protective measures. Parents should raise safety awareness. All walks of life, such as schools, police, etc., preach safety knowledge to children, and strengthen safety education.
Finally, I would like to remind parents:
Life is never about trial and error or excuses. Parents should pay attention, because one out of ten thousand happens, that is, 100%, what is use of self-flagellation and mental pain?
